200 Word Challenge – Descriptive Language (T4 W2)

200 Word Challenge – Descriptive Language

Look at the picture below carefully and complete the table.

Check on the next page for Step 2.

Who is in the photo? A photographer and a rock climber
What is happening in the photo? A photographer is taking a photo of the climber climbing the mountain.
Where was the photo taken? On a mountain
What makes this exciting? The exciting part of this photo is that someone is up high in the sky with no visible harness.
How do you think the characters feel? Climber: I think that the climber is a bit nervous because he could fall and die but I also think that he is ecstatic because he is high up and he probably has lots of experience . Photographer: I think that the photographer is less nervous than the climber because he has a harness but if he drops the camera it would break and the camera looks very expensive.

Write a 200 Word recount as either the CLIMBER or the PHOTOGRAPHER.

Remember; your challenge is to use DESCRIPTIVE Language to SHOW, not TELL your audience what is happening.

On an early Saturday morning I went climbing with a good friend. When I got to the mountain I put on a soft furry coat that was over an inch thick. He then handed me a camera and gave me a harness. We started to climb but after I took a look at him I saw him way higher than me and he was without a harness. So I started to climb faster to catch up to him and took a photo but since I was so focused on catching up to him I didn’t realise that we were in the snow of the mountain until I took the photo. I looked down and I realised how high up I was. I got a little nervous but then I remembered I was on a harness that was thick. I asked him where his harness was and he said he had lots of experience with this mountain and that’s why he’s in a thin singlet because apparently he was hot. I thought he was crazy and that he was freezing on the way down. I was so glad I was off of that mountain that I jumped up and down.

Raru and Miri Create Task

Today I did a create task about a book called Raru and Miri. For my create task I had to choose 1 of 6 different options about creating something for the book.

I chose to use Openart to make a different book cover. To do this I had to use trial and error to make a fitting book cover her are some of my fails.

This was hard because I had to be very specific but I finally got my book cover

200 Word Challenge The Best Food I’ve Tasted

200 Word Challenge

The 200 Word Challenge is an opportunity to practice writing using just the right words. 200 Words might sound like a lot, but once you get going you’ll find yourself crossing that line easily, so be careful to only say what you NEED to.

(This whole thing is over 100 words already)

For Week One your challenge is to write a 200 word recount of a time you…

Tasted the best food you’ve ever tasted.

Remember! This week we have been learning about chronological order. Make sure you get the sequence of events in the right order.

Last Mother’s Day I was watching Youtube, I went downstairs and was told to get ready because we were going out to try a new restaurant called Slabs. Slabs was a small restaurant that was so empty it looked deserted. We were going there because it was Mother’s Day, and my mother wanted to try it because it looked like Detroit pizza. When we got there we ordered a pepperoni pizza, and a cheese pizza. When the pizza came we prayed and tried the pizza. My mother had the first bite and then I tasted it too. It was so delicious I thought it was made by a chef from heaven, and wondered how I hadn’t heard of them before. I tried the pepperoni pizza before the cheese, and thought that it was the best food I have ever had and to this day it still is. I liked it because the food was mouth watering and because the staff were really nice, kind, and super welcoming, plus the workers were always checking on us and making sure that everything was okay unlike other restaurants I’ve been to, so I hope they are doing awesome and that they’re thriving.
