Today I learnt all about Perimeters and Area. This was fun because I like maths. I hope you learn something from this.

 

This term some of the year 5s and 6s are learning about the luner calander. This is fun because I am Learning all about how the maori used the stars to navigate what they do in the year and when. I hope you learn something from these all.

Today I learnt all about time. This was fun because I learnt all about 24 hour time. I hope you learn something from this.

States of Matter – Response to Text

1.   What are the three states of matter commonly found on Earth, and what are TWO of their properties?

 

State #1:Solid	State #2:Liquid	State #3:Gas
Property #1:Solids are rigid, some are also sharp	Property #1: Liquid flows easily and takes the shape of its container	Property #1:Gas atoms can move freely and are contained in a metal container so it doesn’t explode

They stop moving as much and they become a solid

 

5. Explain what happens to the molecules in a liquid when they are heated to their boiling point.

 

They liquid starts to evaporate and turn into gas

 

6. What could be the reason for the fact that gases can be compressed more easily than solids or liquids?

 

The reason could be because the atoms in a gas can move freely and because of that they can then be compressed easily.

 

7. Explain how each of these jobs might need to understand and work with different types of matter. (You may need to research to find out more)

Welder	Carbon monoxide can be smelled because of the temperature of the materials carbonating.	Welders use Welding fluid to make sure the weld works.	Welders use steel when they are welding the steel together

• What did New Zealanders start to call themselves during the First World War?

 

They started to call themselves Kiwis

 

• How did the government encourage Māori to join the war?

 

They used a war cry.

 

• What was the war cry used to encourage Māori to fight?

 

“E te iwi, whìtiki! Whiti! Whiti e!” (“O people, prepare yourselves for battle! Spring up! Spring up!”)

• Why did some Māori feel unwilling to fight in the war?

 

Because the government attacked their iwi 50 years ago

 

• What did the British high command feel uncomfortable about, and why did they initially keep the Māori soldiers busy with digging trenches?

 

Because they didn’t like the idea of the Maori working with the European.

 

• What does the chaplain’s prayer tell us about who the Māori soldiers were responsible for?

 

The prayer says “Remember you have the mana, the honour, and the good name of the Maori people in your keeping this night.” so the prayer is telling us that the Maori soldiers had the lives of the Maori people riding on their backs

 

• How did the First World War change the relationship between Māori and Pākehā?

 

Since they worked together and worked as friends not foe they became friendlier to each other but there was still racism towards Maori.

 

• How did World War One change, and shape New Zealand’s national identity?

 

Since they started to call themselves kiwis they felt more independent of the British empire.
